Last life in the universe (DVD)

(C) Pen-Ek Ratanaruang

Its already been twenty years since this movie made into to the cinemas. But it both seems much older, and at the same time very on point for our society. The storyline reminds me of most books by Haruki Murakami, and yet very different. The many story fragments in this movie are all connected to a Japanese children book, mentioned briefly in the beginning of the movie. The creator have made a movie that works if you view the whole thing as a dream, or as cross over between the real world and fairytale, or simple just try to make sense of the story on face value alone. I watched it, and didnt love it, but also been think of it ever since! I believe its both a very simple, and very complex story, which will stay with me for ever, and will always be the movie I connect with Thailand.
